I am a general adult psychiatrist with a long history of treating a broad range of patients with severe illness and with simpler life issues. I grew up in Manhattan. My father was a primary care physician, my brother was a heart surgeon, and one of my cousins was a psychiatrist. There was also a lot of mental illness in my family. I was a psychiatrist at Massachusetts General Hospital’s inpatient psychiatric unit for eight years, I had a private practice for about 23 years, but for the past 16 years I have worked at Lynn Community Health Center, a clinic in an underserved community. I have become increasingly attached to my patients, who rely on me for medication, advice, and support. It is a role I treasure and plan to keep indefinitely.

Jan Newman, Patient

“I have been grateful to Dr. Erdmann, who began working with me when I was in a period of transition and seeking a qualified therapist. When I was quite young, I had the good fortune to have found a therapist who was just right for me and who worked with me for more than 26 years. I was saddened but not surprised when my former therapist retired. I never expected to find someone who could fill that important role in my life, but I was both surprised and delighted to find that in Dr. Erdmann. He is someone who had the experience and the capability to quickly understand my situation and offered the skillful counseling that enables me to successfully navigate this important time in my life. I am sure that many others will, like me, find him to be an able, insightful, and valued therapist. I look forward to continuing my work with him. "

  Kara, M.D.

"I worked with Dr. Erdmann as a PCP on an integrated primary care team. He was always responsive and loyal to his patients and attentive to their needs. It always impressed me how both their mental health and physical health were very important to him. He understood his patients' perspective and advocated for them."

Ron Dewdney, Patient

“Over twenty years Tony Erdmann has been my psychiatrist, therapist and the facilitator of many groups. The groups especially, with their roving cast of characters, have created a wide, varied spectrum of situations and challenges. Throughout it all Dr. Erdmann has been constant, consistent, attentive, and remarkably non-judgmental. Thus empathy, curiosity and compassion has blessed me with profound, reliable support through many difficult years.

NOTE TO CURRENT AND PROSPECTIVE PATIENTS

I have parted ways with Lynn Community Health Center (LCHC), and my plans for the future are tentative. I have agreed to take a temporary job at Lahey/Beth Israel outpatient clinic. It started on January 23, 2023 and is projected to run several months. I will alternate between the clinics in Salem and Lawrence, and I am currently planning to go to Mississippi State Hospital outside of Jackson next. I have also decided to establish a private practice and have started making arrangements. I have malpractice insurance and am able to send prescriptions, including prescriptions for controlled substances, to any pharmacy. I can now help the patients who were in my care at LCHC. Unfortunately, I still can accept only limited insurance options, but I have applied for credentialing to multiple health insurance companies. I am not yet seeing new patients but will see established patients without charge until I can charge. The credentialing process typically takes three to six months. I will keep you posted on my progress in this space. Thank you for your patience.
